Golden State Unveils New Branding for WNBA Team

The WNBA is growing rapidly as women's basketball is finally starting to receive the investment and buy-in that it demands. This season is ripe to be one of the most enticing in league history, and that only looks to trend upwards.
Expansion is happening for the first time in the W since 2008, with the Golden State Warriors' ownership group securing a bid to start up a franchise in Oakland. This week, the branding and imagery for the team was finally released.
The Valkyries will enter the W as the 13th active team in the league, with multiple other expansion teams slated to join in the following seasons.
With a lavender/purple primary color and black and gray accents, Golden State will be the first team to have purple as a primary color since the now defunct Sacramento Monarchs. Golden State recently tabbed former New York Liberty Assistant GM Ohemaa Nyanin as the first GM in franchise history, and the organization is now underway to set the remaining infrastructure in the coming year.
The team will play in San Francisco's Chase Center, formerly home to the Warriors.
Warriors' owner Joe Lacob spoke highly of Nyanin in her introductory presser, and also highlighted that he expects the franchise to contend for a WNBA Championship within the first 5 seasons of its existence.
Those are lofty goals, but with the commitment ownership has shown, and the potential to hit the ground running as a new Collective Bargaining Agreement is written, the sky is the limit for the newest team in the WNBA.
