TwinSpires Sportsbook Review
Available in Arizona, Indiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Tennessee, the TwinSpires sportsbook boasts a vast range of popular and niche betting markets. Covering the likes of MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, and my personal favorite, soccer, the Churchill Downs-owned sports betting site supports a variety of betting preferences. Such dedication to players’ needs is only pronounced by the inclusion of badminton, eSports, table tennis, handball, and lacrosse markets. Think of a sport, and TwinSpires likely provides odds for it.
An easily accessible sidebar is present on the left side of the screen. Packed with plentiful sports and an A-Z list of options, I took full advantage of this menu by switching from sport to sport during my time on the site. The site is also coupled with a racing-only platform – and it’s here where TwinSpires places most of its emphasis. Domestic racing and events across the pond are listed here, as well as a welcome bonus.
If you prefer your sportsbooks to be simple, navigable and user-friendly, look no further than TwinSpires. In this review, I’ll cover the bookmaker from top to bottom, and if you like what you hear, just click the link at the end of my review to create an account at TwinSpires today.
Bonuses and Promotions
Unfortunately, TwinSpires sportsbook does not have a site-wide welcome offer. Instead, the developers have opted to publish a new player bonus on the ‘Racing’ leg of the website. To access this section, click the ‘Racing’ icon in the top left corner of the sportsbook’s homepage.
In this area, a $200 racing sign-up bonus is on the table for brand-new punters. To participate in the promotion, create an account and enter the code ‘BET200’ in the promo box provided. The offer will automatically link itself to your profile and you don’t need to deposit right away.
This is where things get tough. To claim the full $200 bonus, you need to bet $800 on races. $100 is paid out for every $400 spent — making this bonus one of the least rewarding we’ve ever stumbled across. I’m no racing fanatic, nor am I a high roller, so this isn’t an offer I’d pay any attention to if not for this review. However, I can see some veteran players taking full advantage of the bonus when a big event rolls around.
When I compare this offer to welcome bonuses handed out by BetMGM, Unibet, and BetRivers — whose offers are not limited to a specific area of the respective sites — there’s no competition. TwinSpires falls behind in nearly every regard.
Terms and Conditions
The terms and conditions associated with the TwinSpires welcome bonus are fairly straightforward. You have 30 days from the moment the offer is activated to wager $800 on settled bets, and failure to do so will result in the bonus being removed from your account.
There are no minimum deposit requirements. As such, you can deposit as little or as much as you like within the 30-day bonus period — the important thing is that you spend $800 to claim $200 in bonus cash. Once the $800 threshold has been met, TwinSpires will pay out your bonus within the following 10 days. It should be noted that this bonus is available to one person per household.
Other TwinSpires Promotions
Shifting focus back to the TwinSpires sportsbook and the ongoing offers for existing customers…there isn’t much to add. At the time of writing, I can report that TwinSpires has just one bonus on display. It’s a parlay insurance offer, titled ‘Get Back up to $25’ — and does exactly what it says on the tin.
Any parlay consisting of four or more bets with odds of -250 qualifies for this deal. If one leg of the parlay falls through, TwinSpires promises to pay you $25 in free bets. However, the site also claims that this offer expired in April 2022, so as far as I can tell the TwinSpires’ sportsbook does not have any active bonuses at present.
Sports and Markets
On a more positive note, I’m very pleased with the wide range of sports and betting markets up for grabs at TwinSpires. Not only does the sportsbook serve up a wonderful collection of sporting action, but the markets within those sports offer plenty of opportunities for both new and experienced bettors.
The site supports markets for 26 sports in total, spanning real-life and virtual competitions. This puts TwinSpires clear ahead of DraftKings, Unibet, and BetMGM in terms of available sports, which is an impressive feat.
For Premier League soccer matches, I found an average of nine markets per game. When it came to NFL outings, I counted around 21 betting markets. Viewing the MLB, I added up around 13 markets per matchup. Whilst not as impressive compared to competitors in the industry, these figures are more than sufficient for your betting needs.
TwinSpires also fends off its competition in the eSports genre, supplying markets for four games in all; Valorant, CS:GO, League of Legends, and Overwatch 2. With BetMGM failing to offer a single eSports market and Unibet granting access to fewer eSports, TwinSpires does well here.
Design and Usability
TwinSpires site is dominated by the color blue, which is noticeable within every facet of the platform. The header menu is colored blue with all text in a white font, and the same applies to the sidebar menu.
The center of my screen consisted of some popular sports and recommended events — although the ‘recommended events’ tab wasn’t quite working at the time of my visit. Thankfully, the rest of the sportsbook works an absolute treat.
Scrolling a little bit further down, I could sift between top US sports and leagues, filter each sport by its markets, and create parlays in seconds. This is really where TwinSpires excels. It’s rarely been so easy to select and place bets from various sports without sitting through loading screens. I’ll also give a shout-out to the quick links to live sports and upcoming events that sit in the top right-hand corner of the sidebar menu, providing rapid access to ongoing and highly anticipated action.
My only small gripe is that the betslip ate up quite a chunk of space on the right half of my screen. I understand that TwinSpires wants players — especially newcomers — to see where to bet, but this felt like an unnecessary waste of real estate. I’d throw some statistics related to popular events into this area and make the betslip significantly smaller. On the Android and iOS mobile app, the betslip occupies much less of the screen, which is much cleaner.
Speaking of statistics, TwinSpires provides a staggering impressive amount of information on all its sports. Each event with even a modicum of popularity was given five-star treatment, with attendance details, team lineups, and recent form. Best of all, TwinSpires offers a link to a third-party statistics-based website packed with vital information for various matches, and I appreciate the efforts TwinSpires has taken to help its players make informed and educated decisions.
Payment Methods and Withdrawal Times
What TwinSpires lacks in some areas it makes up for with transaction options, limits, and timeframes. Plenty of the best online payment methods can be used for deposits and withdrawals, with PayPal being my preferred choice. In addition to PayPal, you’re free to pick between credit cards, Play Plus, Pay With My Bank, Pay Near Me, Skrill, or ACH for deposits. Deposits should be processed instantly, but be aware that a $3.99 fee applies to PayNearMe transactions. Alternatively, you can fund your account in person using cash.
I’m a big fan of TwinSpires’ withdrawal methods, too. Checks, Pay With My Bank, PayPal, Play Plus, and ACH provide withdrawal services on the sportsbook — with varying payout times. The quickest withdrawal timeframe — 2 to 5 days — comes from Pay With My Bank, while PayPal stands at 3 to 5 days. The slowest method by a long way is withdrawing via check, coming in at a whopping 10 to 15 days. With some of Unibet’s withdrawal options supporting 24-hour payouts, TwinSpires has a lot of catching up to do.
I’m surprised at the restriction of debit cards for withdrawals. Considering the majority of bettors own a debit card of some kind, TwinSpires is forcing quite a large portion of its punters to use other transaction methods.
Live Betting Options
Live betting — also known as in-play betting — is the practice of putting money on ongoing events. Mobile betting has played a huge role in bringing live betting to the fore by giving players opportunities to bet whenever and wherever they please.
TwinsSpires pushes live betting as a major feature. So much so that live betting is listed second on the sidebar menu, titled ‘Live Right Now’. This section contains a horizontal list of in-play matches across baseball, soccer, basketball, tennis, golf, and others. For timed events, a clock is displayed next to the names of both sides — which gave me great insight as to why certain prices were lower or higher than I may have otherwise expected.
The inclusion of cash out brings a whole new element to TwinSpires’ live betting service. I tested the feature on a handful of wagers, often saving money in the process. That said, the addition of live streaming for sports other than racing would improve the cash out experience tenfold. No amount of statistics or in-game reports can compare to actually watching the game, but at the time of writing TwinSpires only provides streaming services for racing events.
Bet Builder
Creating a unique bet and reaping the rewards is an integral part of online sports betting. At TwinSpires, bet builders are called same-game combos, and they work in much the same way as customizable bets found on similar sportsbooks.
I tested same-game combos on my favorite sport, soccer. In an international affair between the USA and Oman, I put together a four-part same-game combo consisting of a USA win, a tie for corners, both teams to score, and over 2.5 goals. Everything worked smoothly.
The same premise applies to other sports. Whether you want to bet on the NBA, NFL, MLB, or something else — same-game combos provide unique opportunities to build your own parlays. Just click on outcomes from the same-game combo tab to add them to your betslip.
TwinSpires Betting App
On-the-go betting is imperative to the success of betting sites these days, so I was glad to see TwinSpires advertise its iOS and Android sportsbook app. Available through the Google Play Store and App Store, the app boasts the same number of sports, features, up-to-date statistics, and bonuses as the desktop version.
In truth, I’d recommend playing on the app over desktop. Getting the app is free, quick, and it’s backed by a better UI. Updates hit the app every six months or so, ensuring that the platform continues to operate at the top of its game.
Customer Support
I go into every sportsbook review expecting at least three contact methods. TwinSpires meets that requirement with flying colors.
Support agents are on hand to help out from 9:00am until 6:00pm ET via telephone and live chat. As usual, weekdays should prove the best time to get in touch — contact attempts over the weekend may result in being placed in a queue. Nevertheless, it’s always worth letting a support member know of any issues encountered while playing.
Strangely, TwinSpires doesn’t elaborate on the open times for email support — but you can try your hand at contacting the team via email at contact@twinspires.com.
Summary
After cross-examining TwinSpires, I feel a mixture of emotions. On one hand, the site is easy to use and operates smoothly. On the other, there is no welcome offer for non-racing fans — and the available offer is inaccessible to inexperienced bettors on lower budgets. In my opinion, that defeats the purpose of a welcome bonus.
Taking everything else into account — the range of sports, payment methods, contact options, markets, and bet types — TwinSpires fits the bill as a top sportsbook. It’s easy to recommend to players uninterested in bonuses but impossible to sell to anyone else. All in all, TwinSpires is just one or two steps away from being a top-notch choice. To play on a sportsbook that does the basics to a very high standard but not much more, sign up to TwinSpires by clicking the link.
