Oregon lawmakers did not have to pass new legislation to bring sports betting to its residents – the state, along with a handful of others, were grandfathered in due to previous laws on the books allowing wagering.

In August 2019, tribal venue Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City launched in-house betting only on professional and college sports.

In October, the Oregon State Lottery began offering “Scoreboard,” a mobile/online betting app that only offers wagers on professional leagues. State officials, including the governor, are monitoring betting in the state and may make a determination later regarding adding collegiate sports to the state menu.

The app, available on both Android and iOs, may reset several times if you are near tribal lands, where the app is prohibited.

Is sports betting currently legal in the state?

Yes, the State Lottery administers a mobile-only app called Scoreboard and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians offers Vegas-style sports wagering at one venue only – the Chinook Winds Casino Resort.

When did Oregon start accepting bets?

The first retail sports bet occurred on Aug. 27, 2019, at Chinook Resort. The state-run Scoreboard online and the mobile app took its first bet on Oct. 16, 2019.
