NFL Betting: After Stefon Diggs Trade, C.J. Stroud Has Fourth-Best Odds To Win NFL MVP
Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson both won MVP awards in their second seasons.
Could C.J. Stroud do the same?
The Houston Texans continued to load up this offseason by trading for star wide receiver Stefon Diggs on Wednesday. He rounds out one of the best wide receiver trios in the league alongside Nico Collins and Tank Dell.
Stroud was a revelation as a rookie, and the addition of Diggs has oddsmakers thinking he could be in line for a dominant 2024 campaign.
How dominant?
The former No. 2 overall pick has the fourth-best odds to win the NFL MVP in 2024 at BetMGM, ahead of reigning title-holder Lamar Jackson.
Odds To Win 2024 NFL MVP
- Patrick Mahomes +600
- Josh Allen +900
- Joe Burrow +900
- C.J. Stroud +1000
- Lamar Jackson +1200
- Justin Herbert +1400
- Dak Prescott +1400
- Jordan Love +1600
- Brock Purdy +1600
- Jalen Hurts +1600
Stroud averaged 8.2 yards per pass attempt as a rookie and led the league in interception percentage (1.0) and passing yards per game (273.9).
The Texans were projected to be one of the worst teams in the NFL and instead won 10 games and made it to the AFC Divisional Round.
Stroud’s below market rookie contract has allowed the Texans to stack the roster around him, which was a helpful recipe for success when both Mahomes and Jackson won MVP in their second NFL seasons back in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
Houston is also being given a very realistic shot at winning the Super Bowl. Its odds sit at +1600, which can be wagered on at BetMGM.
Odds to Win the 2025 Super Bowl
- 49ers +550
- Chiefs +650
- Ravens +900
- Lions +1200
- Bills +1400
- Bengals +1400
- Texans +1600
- Eagles +1600
- Cowboys +1800

The Texans are the favorites to win the AFC South at +110 and have -175 odds to return to the playoffs this season, per BetMGM.
Stroud was fantastic out of the gate, and now he will have even more support in his sophomore campaign.
Will it result in an MVP? It would be a quick ascension, but one with a blueprint previously set by Mahomes and Jackson.
