Dodgers Teammates Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman Three of Top-Four Candidates to Win MVP

The Los Angeles Dodgers are the clear World Series favorites for 2024, and a look at the preseason MVP odds tells us why.
Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman are each listed in the top-four to win the National League’s most prestigious award at FanDuel, as of December 14th, 2023.
While Braves superstar Ronald Acuna is the preseason favorite, the three Dodgers superstars are also expected to be right in that mix.
Here is a look at the preseason odds to win National League MVP for the top-12 candidates, according to FanDuel:
- Ronald Acuna +500
- Mookie Betts +650
- Freddie Freeman +900
- Shohei Ohtani +1000
- Matt Olson +1200
- Fernando Tatis Jr. +1200
- Bryce Harper +1200
- Trea Turner +2200
- Austin Riley +2500
- Corbin Carroll +2500
- Pete Alonso +2500
- Francisco Lindor +2500
Acuna is the reigning winner after hitting .337 last season with 41 home runs, 106 RBIs and a 168 OPS+ while stealing 73 bases.
Betts has long been one of the best hitters in the majors and is coming off a campaign in which he hit .307 with 39 home runs, 107 RBIS and a 163 OPS+. Freeman batted .331 last year with 29 home runs, 102 RBIs with an OPS+ of 161.
Ohtani is the reigning American League Most Valuable Player after compiling one of the most impressive regular seasons in history.
He hit .304 last season with 44 home runs and 95 RBIs with an OPS+ of 184. Additionally, Ohtani went 10-5 on the mound with a 3.14 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP.
Ohtani would be the favorite to win the award but he underwent Tommy John surgery and won’t be able to pitch in 2024. Additionally, the issue throwing the ball will keep him at designated hitter at the plate, which takes away any value from playing defense.
