NBA Sixth Man of the Year Odds FAQs
Who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award last year?
The reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year is Boston Celtics shooting guard Malcolm Brogdon. He averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in 26.0 minutes off the bench.
Who decides the NBA Sixth Man of the Year?
Like the other end-of-season awards, the Sixth Man of the Year is decided by a panel of North American sportswriters who each cast a first, second and third place vote (worth 5 points, 3 points and 1 point, respectively). The player with the most points wins the award.
Can a player win Sixth Man of the Year more than once?
Yes, players can win the Sixth Man of the Year award more than once. Five players have won it multiple times, led by Lou Williams and Jamal Crawford with three awards apiece.
What is a Sixth Man?
A basketball team's 'Sixth Man' is essentially its best bench player. These players may not be a part of the starting five, usually because a stronger player is available in their position, but they can have significant influence on games when they are subbed onto the court. To be eligible for the award, a player must start the majority of their games from the bench.
Malcolm Brogdon, for example, won the 2023 Sixth Man of the Year Award coming off the bench for the Boston Celtics. Brogdon played as shooting guard at Boston but was second fiddle to Jaylen Brown, one of the Celtics' key players and a two-time All Star. In the 2023-24 season, Brogdon posted a seriously influential season average of 19 points and 6.1 assists per game (tied second-best in the league) whilst shooting 39.8% from the field. Having that kind of firepower coming off the bench is a huge asset for any team, hence the credit given to the league's best Sixth Man each season.
When will the Sixth Man of the Year be decided?
The NBA 6MotY odds will be settled shortly after the end of the NBA Finals. Game 1 of the Finals is set for June 6 2024, with a minimum of four games to be played. Finalists for each award, including the 6MotY, are announced at the end of the regular season, set for April 13 2025.
