At the end of each season a Coach of the Year is named by a panel of voters, and heading into the 2023-24 season, a pair of names stand out. Oklahoma City Thunder coach Mark Daigneualt and first-year Milwaukee Bucks coach Adrian Griffin are the early favorites to be named NBA Coach of the Year. Here is a look at the four top coaches with the best NBA Coach of the Year odds 2024:

Mark Daigneault (+800)

Daigneault is heading into his fourth season as coach of the Thunder, and fans have plenty of reasons to be optimistic. Oklahoma City improved by 16 games last year, finishing just under .500 at 40-42, and the oddsmakers have set their over/under win total at 44 games in 2023-24.

Daigneault has been praised for his in-game adjustments and lineup rotations, along with his willingness to be open-minded when talking to the players.

The team’s record will play a big role in the winner of this award, and OKC has an intriguing mix of players. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the go-to guy, while Josh Giddey and Lu Dortz continue their ascension.

A big addition this season will be Chet Holmgren, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 draft who missed his rookie year with a Lisfranc injury. Top-10 pick Cason Wallace is another rookie with upside as well.

The Thunder are not expected to be among the upper tier of teams in the Western Conference this season, but if they surprise, Daigneault will be in prime position to win NBA Coach of the Year.

Adrian Griffin (+1000)

The Milwaukee Bucks made a coaching change this offseason, firing Mike Budenholzer and replacing him with Griffin. The former Raptors assistant gets his first shot as a head coach, and it’s hard to ask for a much better situation.

The Bucks have been perennial championship contenders the past few years and added Damian Lillard via trade this offseason. It’s not always easy to add another star to the mix, but it seems Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo have the type of playing styles that will complement each other well.

Milwaukee’s projections are already sky-high, as its preseason NBA title odds are tied with the Boston Celtics for the shortest in the league, so this team must dominate for Griffin to be in consideration.

The Bucks may very well finish with the best record in the NBA in 2023-24, and if that happens, you can expect the 2024 NBA Coach of the Year odds to be very much in Griffin’s favor. 

Joe Mazzulla (+1200)

Mazzulla began last season as interim head coach for the Boston Celtics following the hasty departure of Ime Udoka. The team played so well that he was named the permanent coach in February and finished as one of three finalists for NBA Coach of the Year.

Mazzulla is back and his NBA Coach of the Year 2024 odds are looking even better this year with the Celtics once again projected to be a dominant group. Like Milwaukee, Boston may need to finish with the NBA’s best record in order for Mazzulla to claim the award, because the projected win total already sits at a gaudy 54.5 wins in the preseason.

Jason Kidd (+1200)

This is an interesting one. The Dallas Mavericks imploded down the stretch in 2022-23, as a trade for Kyrie Irving did not help the team become a championship contender. However, if their fortunes improve this season, Kidd will earn praise for figuring out a way to mesh Irving and MVP contender Luka Doncic.

Those two are among the best players in the NBA, and if chemistry issues are ironed out, the Mavericks have a chance to surprise with their record. If Kidd helps engineer a turnaround after last season’s disappointing 38-44 campaign, his NBA Coach of the Year 2024 odds will start looking a lot shorter.
