Wyoming Sports Betting
Editor’s note: As of Jan. 20, 2021
Wyoming, with the smallest population in America, had been one of a handful of states where sports betting legislation had ever been introduced through the end of 2019. 2020 however was a very different kettle of fish.
The state does allow gambling in the form of bingo, pull tabs, horse racing, poker rooms, and card games at its three tribal casinos but sports wagering had seemed to be a pipe dream.
Laws passed in the state strictly prohibit gambling, with scant exceptions for charitable or social gambling, and it definitely outlaws online sports betting of any kind.
There is a glimmer of movement in the overall gambling issue related to a bill to create a state gaming commission to regulate gaming, but it doesn’t mention sports betting at all. Similar bills, such as SF0132 was referred to a legislative committee where any action on it was postponed indefinitely.
Writing in 2019, the Casper Star-Tribune wrote, “To be honest, there is not much going on in this state regarding sports.' House Bill 225 came to the house and went down 32-27 in a close vote that indicates that legal sports betting may not be such a faraway notion that it once was.
The state, however, does not outlaw offshore betting, so that avenue is available to residents without reprisal.
Is sports betting currently legal in the state?
No, but it doesn’t outlaw its residents from using offshore sportsbooks.
Can I bet on horse racing?
Yes, this is perfectly legal in the state, if you go via approved vendors such as TVG, Bet America, Twinspires or AMWager.
