NFL Draft Betting: Dallas Turner No Longer the Heavy Favorite to Land With Falcons at No. 8 Overall

Amidst the chaos of the NFL draft projections, one move had long stayed steady: Dallas Turner to the Falcons with the No. 8 overall pick in the draft.
But now that seems to be in flux.
After once being close to even odds to be the No. 8 pick, Turner now has just +320 odds to be the choice at that selection, per BetMGM.
Those implied probability odds sit at 23.8%, as the Alabama edge rusher’s path to Atlanta seems to be much less of a sure thing than once believed.
Some of that can be attributed to the rise of UCLA edge rusher Laiatu Latu, who has +500 odds after being a 15/1 longshot in late March.
Odds to be the No. 8 Overall Pick in the Draft at BetMGM
- Dallas Turner +320
- Laiatu Latu +500
- Jared Verse +600
- Quinyon Mitchell +650
- Rome Odunze +700
- J.J. McCarthy +900
- Terrion Arnold +1000
- Byron Murphy +1400
- Malik Nabers +2000
- Joe Alt +3000
Turner is listed at -115 odds to be the first defensive player drafted, but Latu is gaining on him there as well. Latu is listed at +350 after being +800 earlier in the process.
Turner has -110 odds to be a top-10 pick over at FanDuel, while Latu checks in at +250.
The big question about Latu was a neck injury that forced him to medically retire from football at one point, but if the health exams have checked out, he could now be in the mix at No. 8 and as the first defensive player chosen.
If the Falcons stand pat, choosing an edge rusher or defensive linemen makes sense, and that position has -210 odds to be the first one drafted by Atlanta, per DraftKings.
But the Falcons could also deal that choice. If Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is still on the board, several teams may have interest in moving up for him.
A team like the Cardinals could trade down from 4 and then try to move back up to grab Rome Odunze to address their glaring need at wide receiver.
Those are among the more intriguing longshot picks to go No. 8 overall.
The draft is only a couple of weeks away now, but there continues to be plenty of movement in the betting odds.
The No. 8 overall pick is the latest to get the treatment, as Dallas Turner might not want to start scouting living arrangements in Atlanta quite yet.
