Liverpool vs Tottenham, Predictions, Tips & Analysis May 5th
The rematch of a game that caused so much controversy last time comes on Sunday when Liverpool host Tottenham Hotspur. Liverpool supporters will still be upset over what they felt was a robbery of 3 points last time when VAR wrongly ruled Luis Diaz to be offside for his goal despite being clearly onside. Tottenham went on to win that game, but it likely would have been Liverpool without VAR's mistake. See below for expert EPL insights on this highly anticipated rematch.
What's Next for Liverpool After Klopp?
Jurgen Klopp's farewell season has taken a horrible turn for the German manager. What could have been four trophies has turned into a Carabao Cup win, an FA Cup Quarter-final loss to their biggest rivals Manchester United, an embarrassing Europa League Quarter-final knockout to Atalanta and a likely 3rd placed finish in the Premier League.
With their title hopes as good as over after their recent draws to Manchester United and West Ham and a loss to Merseyside rivals Everton, Klopp will be hoping to finish the season strongly to provide a less bitter ending to his 9-year spell at the Reds.
It's all but confirmed that current Feyenoord manager Arne Slot will be taking over from Klopp and with a group of high earners who aren't getting any younger like Mohammad Salah along with a group of misfiring attackers like Darwin Nunez, Slot could have a tougher challenge at Anfield than some people think.
Can Ange's Tottenham Turn Their Form Around?
Since Tottenham's 4-0 victory over fellow Champions League contestors Aston Villa, their form has fallen off massively. They have had two wins in their last six games, one against relegation candidates Nottingham Forest and Luton Town. With fifth place no longer enough to reach the Champions League, Ange hopes his Tottenham side can turn their fortunes around and throw one last roll of the dice to reach the top 4.
The latest EPL betting odds don't look too good for Spurs, with Aston Villa being -600 favourites to get that last Champions League space compared to Spurs' odds of +400. Tottenham Hotspur are 7 points below Aston Villa when writing this but have two games in hand. The fixtures look more in Villa's favor with Spurs still needing to play Chelsea, Liverpool and title favorites Manchester City. However, a win against Chelsea tonight, followed by a win at Anfield, could see a huge swing in the Premier League predictions for the top four.
Diarmuid's First Same-Game Parlay
I will be splitting my predictions into two same-game parlays. The first one will be the one I see as more likely to come off, and the second one is for people who like to take a long shot with their bets.
Corner Betting (-110)
For my first pick, I am going with Liverpool to have over 7 corners at -110 odds. When playing at Anfield, Liverpool usually gets quite a high number of corners and has averaged 10.4 a game in their last 5 Premier League games at Anfield.
In addition, Tottenham has averaged 9.2 corners conceded a game in their last 5 away games in the Premier League. When the two sides met at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this year, Liverpool managed to get 5 corners in the game, which doesn't seem like much. However, they were down to 10 men when Curtis Jones received a red card and ended the last 20 minutes with 9 men after Diogo Jota also received a red. I predict an 11-man Liverpool squad will reach more corners when playing at Anfield.
Card Odds (-125)
This game promises to be full of cards. The last time these two sides faced each other, Tottenham racked up 5 yellow cards, whilst Liverpool picked up 4 yellows and two reds. As well as this, when playing another Big 6 team, both sides average 3 cards a game. The referee for the game, Paul Tierney, only averages 3.5 cards a game in the Premier League this season, but I predict he will be a busy man on Sunday. I will be backing both teams to receive 2+ cards with Bet365 pricing this at -125
Diarmuid's First Same-Game Parlay Prediction:
Liverpool will receive over 7 corners, and both teams will receive 2+ cards at +243 odds.
Diarmuid's Second Same Game Parlay
James Maddison Over 1.5 Shots on Target (+700)
James Maddison averages 2 shots a game and 0.9 shots on target. However, with this game promising to be quite fast-paced and end-to-end, I can see him attempting more shots than his current average and odds of +700 are too good for me not to have a punt on.
Alexis Mac Allister To Be Carded (+350)
Alexis Mac Allister has picked up 7 yellow cards and 1 red card this season, including a last-minute yellow card last week against West Ham. The Argentinian midfielder can sometimes be a bit hot-headed, and with Sunday's game promising to be fast-paced and end-to-end, I can see him committing one too many fouls during Tottenham counterattacks for Paul Tierney's liking.
Diarmuid's Second Same-Game Parlay Prediction:
James Maddison is to have over 1.5 shots on target and Alexis Mac Allister is to be carded at odds of +3500
