One place in the final of Euro 2020 has been inked in following Italy’s win over Spain on penalty kicks late yesterday afternoon but who will join them, England or Denmark? Neil Monnery takes a look at the betting…

Location: London, England

Date: Wednesday, July 7

Kick Off Time: 3PM ET

TV: ESPN

When you talk about tournament football, one of the things you often hear is momentum. Teams that get better as the competition goes on tend to be the ones to pick. Peak too early and slip ups can happen.

Well both England and Denmark can claim to be on the right path. We all know what happened to Denmark in their opening game with Finland so let’s not rehash that episode but following that they lost to Belgium. A thrilling and rousing victory over Russia saw them move on to the Round of 16 where they dispatched Wales with consummate ease before eking their way past the Czech Republic in Baku.

Those last two words are key - in Baku. That is a long way from London and the Danes have had an extremely tough travel schedule compared to their opponents this afternoon. England played their Quarter-Final in Rome which is a much shorter trip and despite it being a warm night in the Italian capital - the conditions were a lot less taxing than what Kasper Hjulmand’s men faced up in Azerbaijan.

England looked pretty average in their group even though they secured seven points and didn’t concede a single goal. A lackluster 0-0 draw with rivals Scotland saw plenty of negative headlines in the famous English tabloids but 1-0 wins over Croatia and the Czech Republic bookended that phase.

They played Germany in the Round of 16 and went through following a 2-0 win. At 1-0, Thomas Muller went clean through for the Germans and the veteran forward somehow pulled his shot wide. If he scores we are probably talking about a different team in this game but Gareth Southgate’s side destroyed Ukraine in their Quarter-Final, routing them 4-0 in a game that wasn’t even that close.

Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane both have three goals as the two of them seem to have forged an excellent connection. With the latter being heavily linked with a move to Manchester City later this summer, that combination may have repercussions on an EPL level. They are +260 and +140 to score at anytime respectively and I wouldn’t discount either at that price.

Kasper Dolberg at +440 is the top Dane in this market and the eighth player overall. That shows that the Sportsbooks fancy England to continue with their run of clean sheets at Euro 2020.

I do think England qualify but at -133, that price doesn’t excite me. Spain gave their best performance of the competition in their semi-final and it wouldn’t shock me if Denmark do the same. The tie at +260 is a better value bet.

England haven’t let in a single goal in this tournament but that has to change at some point. I think the Both Teams to Score market with ‘Yes’ at +130 with BetMGM is a play.

Picks: I’m going with +650 with BetMGM in the Correct Score market for a 1-1 tie. I really do think England go through and they could even go through easily but a Semi-Final is often tight.

Both Teams to Score at +130 is a yes from me.

I like Harry Kane to score at +140 but also if you want a bit of a longer shot - how about +500 with William Hill in NJ for Mikkel Damsgaard to hit the back of the net as well.
