The reigning world and Copa America champions Argentina are the firm favourites to finish top of the pile, while many would expect Chile to follow them into the knockout stages of the competition in the US.
However, nothing is given in football and both Peru and Canada will know three points at Children’s Mercy Park on Tuesday would go a long way to earning a place in the quarter-finals.
Peru raised plenty of eyebrows by managing to grind out a goalless draw against Chile in their opening game of the competition.
The task was made even harder when veteran wing-back Luis Advincula was forced off just after 35 minutes.
With 120 caps for his country Advincula will be sorely missed if the apparent Achilles injury keeps him out for the remainder of the tournament.
As for Canada, manager Jesse Marsch will be able to take some positives out of their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Argentina in their opening game of the tournament in Atlanta, Georgia.
Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez and Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez did eventually find the back of the net in the second half, after Les Rouge had been able to keep the Albiceleste off the scoresheet before the break at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
These sides have only met on one previous occasion, with the Peruvians running out 2-0 winners in an international friendly back in September 2010.
Canada will be hoping Children’s Mercy Park can provide the venue for their first-ever win over Peru and boost their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals.

Goals have been an issue for Peru of late, which sees Canada to win while keeping Peru off the scoresheet as an attractive option here.
Peru have only scored once in their last three games with a goal against El Salvador, while Canada have recently kept clean sheets against both Trinidad & Tobago and France.
With the experienced Cyle Larin and Jonathan David in attack for Canada, Marsch’s men look capable of getting back to winning ways in this crucial Group A showdown.

The aforementioned Jonathan David will be a key figure once again in the Canadian attack on Tuesday night. Since making his debut back in 2018, David has scored 26 goals in 48 appearances for his country.
A key player in helping Lille win the Ligue 1 title ahead of big-spenders Paris Saint-Germain in the 2020/21 campaign, David has proven himself to be an admirable striker in the French top-flight.
The former Gent forward bagged 26 goals in 47 appearances for Lille last season, so finds himself in good form coming into this tournament.
With pace and an ability to score under pressure, David looks good value to add to his international goals tally here.
