Lawrence Shankland helped Scotland rescue a point in the 2-2 draw with Georgia after Khvhicha Kvaratskhelia's second half brace looked to sink the Scots for only the second time during qualifying. That injury-time equaliser had no bearing on their qualification, with the second automatic place already claimed ahead of kick-off. However, it does mean that Steve Clarke's side have suffered just one defeat in Group A so far, which came at the hands of winners Spain away from home.
Norway will be anxiously awaiting their fate over the coming days, relying on other results to determine whether they will be one of 12 teams to secure a play-off place for next year's tournament. The Nordic side's last appearance at a major tournament came back in 2000, which was only the fourth time in their history that they'd qualified for a European Championships or a World Cup.
Scotland vs Norway Tips
The Tartan Army will be enjoying Scotland's return party having secured qualification with two games to spare after Spain defeated Norway in Oslo. Thursday's draw with Georgia may have appeared as though the Scots took their eye off the ball having already grabbed a place in Germany, however, the visitors saw the majority of the ball, had the better chances and can feel hard done by the antics of some of Georgia's players, as highlighted by midfielder Scott McTominay.
Rather than seeing this homecoming as a distraction, we believe Steve Clarke will have his side determined to put on a performance in front of their own fans. Those celebrations will be somewhat undercut by a defeat to Norway, and instead of souring a remarkable qualification campaign, the Scots will want to end things on a high note at Hampden Park.
They've won all three of their EURO 2024 qualifying home matches and navigated a much more difficult 2-1 victory over Norway last time the two sides met in June. The visitors will be lacking their chief creator Martin Odegaard for the trip, in addition to their two main goal threats in Alexander Sorloth and of course, the enigmatic powerhouse Erling Haaland. Even with these three on the field, we'd still fancy Scotland's chances of overcoming the challenge, so without them this becomes a much easier sell. Norway didn't exactly blow the Faroe Islands away in their friendly earlier this week either, meaning we'll happily snatch the 5/4 being offered for the home side to post a sixth win in Group A.
At this point Scott McTominay's exploits for Scotland need no introduction. At this stage, only Romelu Lukaku and Cristiano Ronaldo have outperformed the Scots' tally of seven goals from as many fixtures. Steve Clarke truly appears to have struck gold by playing the Manchester United midfielder in a more advanced role and his returns in Group A are likely to tempt some into a crazy each-way play on the 26-year-old in the top scorer market at next year's finals.
Having been buoyed by the unsportsmanlike behaviour of some Georgian players on Thursday, McTominay might fancy himself to kick an injured Norway while they're down by adding another goal to his growing tally. He has three for United this season despite largely being utilised from the bench, and provided Scotland with one four minutes after the break this week. We're surprised to see him positioned at 4/1 to repeat what he's already done on five occasions from a possible seven during qualifying, and with this depleted Norway rocking up to Hampden Park with their tails between their legs, McTominay is exactly the type of individual to show his opponents no mercy.
