Premier League Predictions 2023/24: Gameweek 3 Picks

The Premier League serves us up five televised matches for our weekly predictions piece, starting on Friday night when Chelsea look to bounce back at home to Luton.
We had two correct results and a correct scoreline from the five TV matches in gameweek 2, with Luke Hamilton tasting success in Arsenal's narrow 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.
Chelsea vs Luton
- Friday 25th August, Sky Sports Main Event, 8pm
Luton were out of action last weekend which is exactly what Mauricio Pochettino's Chelsea will have been wishing for themselves at full-time after a missed penalty saw them swept aside 3-1 by 10-man West Ham. We still have very limited knowledge on The Hatters in the Premier League which will most definitely work in the unknown entity's favour.
If Chelsea didn't have home advantage, it would have all the makings of a banana skin fixture. This will be a real test of their defensive resilience against a side who are big, awkward and often bypass the midfield to stage attacks. Chelsea will just about come away with minor blushes.
Luke Hamilton's Prediction: Chelsea 3-2 Luton
Bournemouth vs Tottenham
- Saturday 26th August, TNT Sports 1, 12.30pm
Bournemouth face Spurs on the south coast with both sides having new managers at the helm this season. Andoni Iraola is a man who relishes the underdog tag and he has already started to implement his attacking style onto this crop of Cherries players. Bournemouth have found the net against West Ham and Liverpool so far and they can do it again in Gameweek three against Spurs.
The positivity around Tottenham at the moment is certainly refreshing. They now have a manager who wants to be at the club and has a clear vision moving forward. This was evident in the excellent win over Manchester United last week and they can pick up another three points here. Spurs won’t have it all their own way and this could be a high-scoring affair with two attacking teams.
Anton Eadon's Prediction: Bournemouth 1-2 Spurs
Brighton vs West Ham
- Saturday 26th August, Sky Sports Main Event, 5.30pm
I'm really looking forward to this game between two entertaining teams whose four matches this season have contained a combined 16 goals. I'm expecting a similar theme on the south coast this Saturday.
Early pacesetters Brighton have continued where they left off last season, taking maximum points from their two games, during which they've blasted in eight goals. West Ham are also unbeaten, with an opening point at Bournemouth followed by an impressive 3-1 win over Chelsea, however it's the hosts who are impossible to resist at the moment.
Jack Kitson's Prediction: Brighton 3-2 West Ham
Sheffield United vs Man City
- Sunday 27th August, Sky Sports Main Event, 2pm
Man City will be without their key talisman Kevin de Bruyne but with the Premier League champions having a plethora of talent on the bench, the void left by the Belgian can easily be filled.
Despite this being an away game City are monstrous favourites at 1/6 to beat the Blades and it's hard to argue with that. Whilst their meetings in the last few years have been relatively cagey, this version of City and this version of Sheffield United are completely different. This is a complete mismatch and a 4-0 win for City will be my prediction.
Ste McQuillan's Prediction: Sheffield United 0-4 Man City
Newcastle vs Liverpool
- Sunday 27th August, Sky Sports Main Event, 4.30pm
In what looks like the potential game of the week, Newcastle host Liverpool at St James’s Park. Both teams have had solid starts to the season, with Newcastle dismantling Villa before a 1-0 loss at Man City. Liverpool began their campaign with a 2-2 draw at Chelsea before beating Bournemouth 3-1 last weekend at Anfield despite being down to 10 men.
Both teams here look packed full of goals but I do think the Newcastle midfield can overrun a Liverpool team lacking a real midfield anchor. A 3-1 home win is my selection.
Billy Grimshaw Prediction: Newcastle 3-1 Liverpool
